The Du Sol Wines Story

From the ground.

Du Sol Wines celebrate the soils and people of South Africa. This wine is our way of saying: life is serious enough, so pour a glass, laugh a little louder, and toast the everyday moments that keep our feet on the earth and our spirits in the sun — despite the odds.

The Founder

Solly Moeng.

For years, many people have known him under studio spotlights, behind microphones, or debating South Africa’s future through his columns and in public forums. Founding Du Sol Wines led him to switch from all of that to a very different setting — between vineyard rows instead of TV lights — to introduce something deeply personal: his own private wine label, the culmination of a journey of many years.

“Du Sol” means “from the ground”, and that is exactly what this project is about: wines born from the soils and people of South Africa — our farmers, our winemakers, our stories, and our everyday moments of joy, despite the odds.

The Heart of the Brand

Reasons to celebrate.

Life in South Africa is serious enough. We carry a lot — load shedding, politics, rising cost of living, corruption, and various forms of personal pressure. Du Sol is Solly’s way of saying “let’s not forget to pause, to pour a glass, laugh a little louder, and toast the everyday moments that keep our feet on the earth and our spirits in the sun.”

Du Sol wine are about wine for wine’s sake. they’re about connection — around dinner tables, at braais, picnics, over happy conversations — where we remind ourselves that, even in tough times, we still have reasons to celebrate.

The Journey & The People

Not a solo act.

This label is not a solo act. It’s a collaboration and a journey. Solly is deeply thankful to the people who believed in his dream and agreed to walk the road with him: Stanley van den Heever, who has partnered with him on this project, and Bertus Osbloed, a legendary winemaker, as well as the production team at Lourensford Wines, led by owner Junior Burger and Production Manager Deirdré Louw. He also acknowledges several other friends who gave advice, encouragement, and honest feedback along the way.

From the choice of vineyards to the early harvest decisions, and feedback on the final design of the Du Sol labels — every part of Du Sol wines carries their input and their faith that this crazy idea of his could become a reality. Now it has and is set to continue, one cultivar at a time!
